what is a sound bath ?

Sound has been used as a calming tool for thousands of years.

A Sound Bath (also known as a Sound Meditation) is when specific instruments are played at particular frequencies for a group to create a therapeutic atmosphere that helps us rest deeply, rebalance our nervous systems and help us release emotions.

The instruments I use are highest grade Peter Hess quality, (sourced fair trade and certified by the Institute in Germany). I follow the Peter Hess methodology creating Sound in a therapeutic way.

During our hectic lives we are bombarded with stimulation and information, constantly absorbing the sounds around us.

The intention of a Sound Bath is to provide you with the time and space to be still and silent allowing your brain waves to slow down and your parasympathetic nervous system to activate. (When the body and mind are at rest, healing may occur).

I offer Sound Baths for private groups at my studio in St Kilda East or at private homes or Corporate offices. Clients include Nike, Aveda, Mecca, The Immigration Museum, ARUP Engineers, Red Nose, Workday, Headspace and more.

What is a Sound Massage?

In private one-on-one sessions, the Peter Hess therapeutic bowls are carefully placed on your clothed body and gently played in a particular sequence.

The therapeutic instruments used are all highest grade Peter Hess quality, (sourced fair trade and certified by the Institute in Germany)

The bowls have a vibro-acoustic effect upon your body. This means you can feel the sound as well as hear it.

The vibrations ripple through the bones, organs, tissue and fluids removing blockages and restoring the natural flow of energy and balance. The non harmonic frequency range of the bowls resonate with certain body areas.

The gentle sound waves created harmonise with our brainwaves and slow them down. When this happens the heart rate and breathing also slow down. This creates a deeply relaxing state that provides the nervous system the time and space to recalibrate itself.

Allowing the nervous system to reset assists in the reduction of stress and negative impacts of stress. The Peter Hess Sound Massage treatment combines evidence based medical and scientific research with ancient eastern philosophy.

how does sound relaxation work?

The frequency of the sounds synchronise with the brain frequency slowing down the brainwaves activating our parasympathetic nervous systems. This soothing trance like meditative state of deep relaxation is where the nervous system can reset, repair and rejuvenate.

In a Sound Massage (Vibro Acoustic Treatment) subtle vibrations penetrate all areas of our body (which is around 70% liquid) and gently massage every organ, tissue and cell, going deeper than a muscular massage, encouraging flow of the body fluids and harmonising the cells back into their natural state of organisation.

This powerful yet gentle technique creates a deeply nourishing tranquil state providing the body with the optimal environment for physical, emotional, spiritual rest and repair.

Precautions

Sound Baths and Sound Massage use sound and vibration to gently lead you into a deep state of relaxation.

In a One on One Sound Massage, instruments that vibrate may be placed upon the body or held in proximity to the body. As a precaution, Sound Massage is not recommended if you are pregnant, have bi-polar or schizophrenia or if you have a pacemaker or are experiencing severe asthma.
